Free Man Poem
Yo traveler; make your preparations, and depart; know this:
Free man is only the man, who is free in his character
The limits of the freedom of man, is found in thyself
And in case the free man is sincere in his decision,
In case he has integrity in heart, these are what makes him noble
And free man ascends with this, not mistakes.
He will not feel a pleasure from a made-up nobility inherited from parents:
Because it is not the parents, conceiving a free man
It is Zeus, the father of all and the human race
All has a single chance. He takes the physical beauty, for destiny.
This is the noble beauty and freedom in real sense.
The slaves by soul will not avoid foul language, even if an old slave
Extravagance is the indicator of such person, has innobility in his heart
Yo traveler, Epictetus was born from a slave mother,
yet he was higher than all, like an eagle: his soul was appreciated
when it came down to wisdom
That is to say, a godly being gave birth to him. I wish now (if this was possible)
Such beneficial man, a source of joy
Was born to a slave mother amongst all famous persons.
